Long-distance train rides will be an affordable getaway for couples, family, or friends this winter, thanks to Amtrak’s latest deal.

The rail company has launched a new offer that allows travelers to bring a free plus-one on roomette bookings for a limited time. The deal, which Amtrak calls its ‘Twice as Nice’ sale, is valid for travel from November 2025 through January 2026 on some of the company’s most scenic routes on both coasts, the southern U.S., and the middle of America.

Roomettes are Amtrak’s sleeper cabins available on some of its longer, cross-country routes. The cabins have two seats that are transformed into an upper and lower bunk at night and fitted with bedding and pillows.

Roomettes also come with a dedicated first class attendant (who performs turndown service each night), priority boarding, complimentary meals, and lounge access at Amtrak’s larger stations. The cabins do not have their own restrooms, so travelers should expect to share restroom and shower facilities on board the train.

“Whether it’s a weekend getaway with a family member or quality time with a close friend, Amtrak guests who travel in our Roomettes will enjoy comfort, upgraded amenities, and first class service while taking in some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes,” said Eliot Hamlisch, Amtrak’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “With our ‘Twice as Nice Sale’, travelers can share the experience and create lasting memories for two, all for the price of one.”

The deal is valid on most of Amtrak’s long-distance lines, except for the southbound leg of the Auto Train that runs from Virginia and Florida. That means the deal applies to roomettes aboard the California Zephyr, Cardinal, City of New Orleans, Coast Starlight, Crescent, Empire Builder, Floridian, Lake Shore Limited, Silver Meteor, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, the Texas Eagle, and the northbound route of the Auto Train (from Sanford, Florida, to Lorton, Virginia).

To score the two-for-one deal, travelers should book on Amtrak’s sale page by November 1, using promo code C121.

Travelers should be aware the sale includes several blackout periods, mainly around Thanksgiving and December holidays. Those dates include: Nov. 21 – Nov. 25, 2025; Nov. 28 – Nov. 30, 2025; Dec. 18 – Dec. 22, 2025; and Dec. 26, 2025 – Jan. 3, 2026.
