Hawaiian Airlines reached out to customers on June 26 to
inform them of a cybersecurity attack that could have potentially exposed some
of their personal data.
According to KHON.com, Hawaiian customers who clicked on the airline’s
website found a notice stating that the carrier was “addressing a
cyber-security event” that impacted its computer systems, but no flights were
canceled or delayed.
The airline did not reveal how many travelers were impacted or
what information was compromised.
Officials from Hawaiian released a statement on the
incident:
“Hawaiian Airlines is continuing to address a cybersecurity
event that has affected some of our IT systems. We continue to safely operate
our full flight schedule, and guest travel is not impacted. As we navigate the
ongoing event, we remain in contact with the appropriate experts and federal
authorities. We will provide updates as more information is available.”
The airline said it’s working with experts and federal
authorities regarding the breach.
Cybersecurity experts told KHON that while credit card
information was most likely not taken, other personal details could have been
exposed to hackers, including names, home addresses, and email addresses.
As a result, experts warn that Hawaiian customers should be
cautious of potential phishing attacks.
