Video has surfaced of the DoorDash driver who recently took
a wrong turn and accidentally ended up on the tarmac at Chicago O'Hare
International Airport.
According to WGN
Investigates, an unidentified driver making a food delivery entered an “unauthorized
secured area” last month and drove around the tarmac for around 10 minutes
before being stopped by a police officer.
Police said surveillance footage showed the delivery driver
in a red Hyundai Elantra entered the restricted area through a security gate.
When asked about entering the airport tarmac, the driver insisted he was following
his GPS instructions.
Upon entering the Chicago airport, the man is seen in
another video pulling up next to a United Airlines airplane jet parked at
Terminal 1, Concourse C at around noon on May 17. Baggage handlers in the area
stopped the driver, and police intervened shortly afterward.
When police investigated the vehicle, they found a receipt and
the delivery order and released the man without issuing citations.
As for the private security guard stationed at the entrance
where the delivery driver had breached, the Chicago Department of Aviation
referred the matter to the Transportation Security Administration, and she was
relieved of her duty.
Officials report the security guard saw the driver pass
through her checkpoint and closed the gate behind him, but did not report the
incident to her direct supervisor.
“The employee involved is no longer employed by Lincoln
Security, and their airport credentials have been terminated by the CDA,” airport
spokesperson Kevin Bargnes told WGN Investigates.
