Thanksgiving is still two months away and Christmas is exactly three months away, but the window to book a budget-friendly holiday getaway is closing quickly.

New data revealed by travel app Going this week shows that Americans began their holiday flight searches earlier than ever this year, beginning the planning process 15 days earlier for both holidays this year, compared to 2024.

Going travel expert Katy Nastro points out that the shift is due to travelers anticipating rising costs.

"Prices are already higher than last year for the winter holidays, and with the economy top of mind for millions of Americans, it's no wonder we are seeing earlier search habits. Wait too long to book and the only thing you'll be unwrapping is holiday stress, not savings," she said in a statement.

The time to book domestic flights is right now, according to the experts.

"For Thanksgiving, travelers should aim to book domestic trips ASAP, or latest by the end of the month," says Nastro, referring to September.

Travelers venturing abroad for Thanksgiving will have a little more wiggle room but should still aim to book by early October.

When it comes to Christmas, Nastro says "travelers should get domestic trips booked by early October and international flights even sooner."

With time running out to get the most bang for your buck, it can be easy to rush the planning and booking process, making travelers vulnerable to scams or purchases that are too good to be true that come with loads of fine print.

That's where a travel advisor can help. Working with a trusted travel professional can provide added flexibility, buying you not only more time but peace of mind in knowing your reservations are legitimate.

Holiday travel doesn't come without headaches, especially as crowds and prices ramp up.

However, booking your trip doesn't have to be one of them if you heed the experts' advice and reach out to an industry pro equipped with the knowledge, tools and access to ensure your seasonal escape is a jolly one in 2025.
