Theme park fans in Europe can rejoice, as Universal has registered
a trademark that is likely to be the name of a new theme park to be built in
the United Kingdom.
According to BBC.com, the United
States-based company officially filed an application with the Intellectual
Property Office for "Universal United Kingdom Resort" on Monday, but Universal
officials declined to comment.
The theme park company plans to build a resort complex associated
with “amusement park services and hotels” at Kempston Hardwick, near Bedford,
England. The trademark can also be used on items such as books, bags, clothing,
toys and more.
Last month, Universal applied to use the term "Universal
Studios Grand Hotel" for entertainment services, hotels, and restaurants,
but officials are still awaiting approval from the English government before proceeding
with construction.
In total, the theme park company expects to create around 8,000
jobs when the resort opens in 2031, with the total jumping to over 12,000 by
2051. Another 5,000-plus workers will be employed during construction.
