Universal Orlando Resort officials confirmed that the company is planning for future developments in the Lost Continent area of the Islands of Adventure park, according to an email that was sent to the Orlando Business Journal.
On September 10, the theme park applied for a permit to demolish roughly five acres of land in the park.
Islands of Adventure, which debuted in 1999, featured eight areas, each with a specific theme, including Lost Continent. Two main attractions at Lost Continent have been shuttered over recent years. The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad, a stunt show, closed in late 2018. And Poseidon’s Fury, a special effects show focused on ancient Greek mythology, shut down in May 2024.
Lost Continent today is half the size it once was, as part of its acreage was turned into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter 15 years ago.
Industry sites have noted that demolition is expected to begin in the next few months. The Mythos Restaurant, located in Lost Continent, will not be part of the demolition and continues to operate.
Based on Universal’s relationships with other partners, some have speculated that the whole area may be rethemed and redeveloped as a Legend of Zelda world or a manga-themed land. But Universal has been tight-lipped, and what’s next for the area has not been divulged by the company.
