In 2026, HX Expeditions celebrates 130 years since its pioneering voyage from mainland Norway to Svalbard—a journey that ignited the spirit of exploration still driving the company today as a leader in Arctic and Antarctic expedition cruises. To commemorate this milestone, the company has created an extraordinary offering: the 1896 Cabin, available exclusively aboard MS Fridtjof Nansen.

An Immersive Historical Experience

The 1896 Cabin is far more than accommodation—it's a portal to the golden age of polar exploration. Guests who book this unique experience will find themselves surrounded by historically sourced props, oil lamps casting flickering light across wood-paneled walls and the warm glow of a period stove. Custom 130th anniversary bed linens and robes complete the atmosphere, while even the bathroom features rustic touches authentic to the era.

The cabin transports guests to a time when explorers braved uncharted waters with little more than courage and a compass. The scent of timber mingles with salt air as stories of hardship, discovery and adventure come alive around them.

Supporting Conservation Through History

This immersive experience serves a purpose beyond nostalgia.

Half of all profits from the 1896 Cabin bookings will support the HX Foundation, funding conservation and community projects worldwide. This contribution forms part of HX's ambitious anniversary goal to raise €130,000 per ship in 2026.

Booking and Experience Details

Available starting January 29, 2026, the 1896 Cabin is priced at €450 per cabin for single or double occupancy.

Guests should note this is an add-on experience—standard cabin fare still applies and no refunds are offered for the night spent in the historic accommodation.

The Guest Services Manager personally welcomes guests and escorts them to their cabin at 2 p.m. check-in, with check-out at 11 a.m. the following day.

On embarkation day, the cabin opens as a show cabin with a historian before becoming the exclusive retreat of its occupants.

With limited availability of one night per guest per voyage, interested travelers should contact HX Expeditions directly to secure this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
