Spirit Airlines is introducing a new perk for travelers purchasing flights with the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard, a co-branded card with Bank of America.

Available immediately at a tumultuous time for the budget carrier, primary cardholders can take advantage of up to two free checked bags on every Spirit trip booked with their credit card.

To qualify, cardholders must book on spirit.com or the Spirit mobile app. The two free checked bags can weigh up to 50 pounds each and may include popular items such as golf clubs, skis and snowboards.

"Our most loyal guests know they get the greatest value when they choose Spirit, and now the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard makes flying with us even more rewarding," Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines, said in a statement.

"With two free checked bags, primary cardholders can enjoy more of what they love, including excellent value, great perks and an elevated travel experience."

Other benefits available to Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard holders include access to priority check-in and boarding as well as complimentary space-available upgrades to Premium Economy and Spirit First, and a 25 percent rebate on in-flight food and drink purchases made with their card.

For those considering applying for the card, the airline points out that new Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard primary cardholders are eligible for 50,000 bonus points and a $100 companion flight voucher after qualifying purchases.
