Princess Cruises is celebrating a major construction milestone for Star Princess.
The second Sphere class vessel has successfully completed sea trials as it prepares for its October 4 debut.
From August 9-12, the ship left the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and headed to the Adriatic Sea. Once there, experts tested the vessel’s steering, navigation, propulsion and other systems. The sea trials were overseen by Gennaro Arma, the captain of the Star Princess, who is leading the Sphere class newbuild site team.
Star Princess will be powered by liquefied natural gas. It also has two Azipod propulsion units, which provide 360 degrees of thrust for both forward and reverse movement, as well as four large controllable pitch bow thrusters that allow for precise lateral maneuvering.
The 177,800-ton, 4,300-guest ship will feature 30 dining and bar venues, elevated entertainment and activity offerings and luxurious accommodations.
