In a shift from the usual cuts to U.S. routes we’ve become accustomed to seeing, Air Canada has announced a handful of new transborder routes, set to take off in the summer of 2026. Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to San Antonio (SAT) will operate three times a week. From Montreal-Trudeau (YUL) there will be daily service to both Cleveland Hopkins (CLE) and John Glen Columbus (CMH). All three of the new routes are being introduced on a seasonal schedule, beginning May 1, 2026.
Closer to home, the airline is also adding domestic flights to its roster. All flights will be operated with Air Canada Express Q400 aircraft. Flights are now available to book.
Flights from Ottawa (YOW) to Fredericton and Moncton are set to take to the skies beginning in December, The New Brunswick flights have been “strategically designed” to connect in Ottawa to and from the airline’s domestic and sun network, giving travellers more choice.
In the west, a new flight between Vancouver and Fort McMurray is being introduced.
“Air Canada is diversifying its domestic regional network this fall to capitalize on travel demand in growing markets,” says Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo at Air Canada.
Additionally, service between Toronto and Sudbury will be increased from two daily flights to three, increasing seat capacity by 50 percent, beginning Feb. 1, 2026.
These changes come at the expense of the Bathurst and North Bay routes, which will be suspended in accordance with the airline’s obligations under the Canada Transportation Act as of Jan. 30, 2026. Air Canada calls the decision “difficult” and cites “commercial viability reasons” for the cuts.
