Jamaica has become the Caribbean’s most connected destination, with flights to over 55 international gateways in airports around the world.

The Jamaica Tourist Board celebrated the milestone at the JAPEX media breakfast at Jewel Grande in Montego Bay, where Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett spoke.

“Jamaica’s rapid expansion in airlift is more than just a milestone for tourism; it’s a catalyst for national transformation,” he explained. “Our vision is clear — tourism must work for all Jamaicans. These investments are creating opportunities for small businesses, communities, and workers, ensuring the benefits of growth are shared equitably across the island.”

Year-end arrivals are projected to be totaled at 4.5 million for the small Caribbean nation, with 3.1 million stopover visits and 1.4 million cruise passengers.

And Jamaica’s just getting started.

Investments and developments include the Montego Bay Perimeter Road, which is now 60 percent complete and will, when it opens, relieve congestion and create a smoother travel experience for everyone. Jamaica is also expanding the North Coast Highway in partnership with the International Finance Corporation, and, beyond infrastructure, is making headways into tourism development.

Over 20,000 workers have been certified through the Jamaica Centre for Tourism Innovation, and the government’s Tourism Workers Pension Scheme has been expanded to provide greater financial security for those who work in the sector.

Upcoming projects include greater sustainability investments, community partnerships and more.

“Connectivity is just the beginning,” Bartlett said. “With every new flight, every new road, and every trained worker, we’re building a tourism industry that reflects Jamaica’s spirit — vibrant, world-class, and committed to shared success.”
