During the upcoming Antarctic cruise season, HX Expeditions plans to launch an expanded kayaking and camping program.

Starting in October, guests will have even more opportunities to explore the White Continent. The company is planning a 188 percent increase in kayaking capacity and twice the camping spots, with space for up to 60 guests to sleep on Antarctica.

“We’re reimagining how guests experience Antarctica,” says Karin Strand, vice president of expeditions development. “It’s about making these once-in-a-lifetime moments available to everyone on board, while delivering them in small, intimate and responsible groups. Whether you're gliding past icebergs on your kayak or sleeping under the stars, we’re here to help you write your own Antarctic story. And importantly, all experiences are designed in harmony with nature and in strict adherence to the environmental regulations that govern human activity in Antarctica.”

HX Expeditions is also expanding solo traveler access, as guests do not need to have a partner in order to be able to go kayaking or camping.

New, inflatable kayaks will also be available. These self-guided solo vessels were custom-designed in partnership with NRS (Northwest River Supplies) in the United States and Escape Watersports in the United Kingdom. They’ll be offered in addition to hard-shell sea kayaks, led by expedition guides.

For camping, the company is also debuting new lightweight, low-impact, weather-ready bivvy bags. Sourced from Scandinavia, the gear has been rigorously tested by HX experts. Two-person tents are also available.

The brand is also expanding its activity mix in Antarctica. Guests can choose from two kayaking types, two camping styles, snowshoeing, polar plunges and extended hikes. In addition, the company is doing away with its previous lottery system. Instead, a first-come, first-served system will be used on most sailings, with a pre-booking system in development for future Antarctic seasons.

“Experiencing Antarctica must come with responsibility,” says Strand. “Every step we take is guided by the principles of sustainable tourism. We work within the framework of IAATO guidelines to ensure our presence leaves no trace—minimizing impact, respecting wildlife and preserving the pristine beauty of the polar environment for generations to come.”
