With the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel now officially underway, a growing number of airlines have formally announced plans to resume flights to Israel.

The 15-month-long hostilities ended on Sunday and Hamas has begun returning Israeli hostages. Since then several airlines have said they plan to return to Israel, marking a positive step forward for those hoping to visit and for the region itself.

Here’s a run-down of the announcements to date.

Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines revealed that it would restart daily nonstop service to Tel Aviv (TLV) from New York City-JFK on April 1, utilizing the Airbus A330-900neo to provide customers with nearly 2,000 weekly seats.

Delta’s decision to resume service follows a comprehensive security review, conducted in close coordination with government and private-sector partners. The airline also bolstered its presence in Israel through a codeshare agreement with EL AL Israel Airlines.

The partnership enables Delta customers to book EL AL’s nonstop flights to Tel Aviv from major U.S. cities such as New York, Newark, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.

British Airways

British Airways will restart flights between Tel Aviv, Israel and London on April 5. The airline paused services in October 2024.

Initially, British Airways will offer one flight a day but will ramp up to two flights daily by April 20. Though this information is not posted in the British Airways newsroom, it was confirmed by The Times of Israel

ITA Airways

In a press release posted on its website, ITA Airways (formerly Alitalia) said it will start flying between Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport again on February 1.

Initially, the carrier will offer one flight daily, but that increase on February 16 to include an additional nighttime flight “subject to the evolution of the geopolitical scenario,” the airline said in a statement.

Flights will operate according to the following schedule:

  • For the daytime flight, departure from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion at 2:30 p.m. (local time) with arrival at Rome Fiumicino at 5:15 p.m. (local time)
  • For the nighttime flight, departure from Tel Aviv Ben Gurion at 5:15 a.m. (local time) with arrival at Rome Fiumicino at 8:05 a.m. (local time)
  • For the daytime flight, departure from Rome Fiumicino at 9:10 a.m. (local time) and arrival at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport at 1:30 p.m. (local time)
  • For the nighttime flight, departure from Rome Fiumicino at 10:50 p.m. (local time) and arrival at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport at 3:10 a.m. (local time) the following day

Air France is also among the carriers that confirmed Tuesday that it will resume flights to Israel. An Air France spokesman told a media outlet that it will restart service to Israel on January 25.

The carrier will offer seven flights per week between Tel Aviv and Paris.

Lufthansa

One of the first airlines to announce resumed flights to Israel, Lufthansa revealed last week that it plans to begin serving the country once again. Though not mentioned in the airline’s newsroom, it has been reported by several news outlets that the carrier will restart service.

Lufthansa’s global aviation group includes several airlines, among them: Lufthansa, Swiss International Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways and Eurowings.

Wizz Air

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air ceased flight service to Israel back in October 2023. The airline recently began slowly resuming operations, according to Euro News.

As of January 15, the carrier was offering connections to London, Budapest, Vienna, Milan, Warsaw and Athens. It also resumed its flights to Amman, Jordan, on January 16.
