The Trump Administration is rejecting former President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.’s plan to require airlines to compensate passengers with cash, accommodations and meals for lengthy delays.

In a document released on Sept. 3, the Department of Transportation said the rejection of the plan “is consistent with Department and administration priorities,” according to an Associated Press story.

Not surprisingly, airlines are lauding the move to reject the Biden proposal.

“We are encouraged by this Department of Transportation reviewing unnecessary and burdensome regulations that exceed its authority and don't solve issues important to our customers,” said Airlines for America, the airline trade association that represents such carriers as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines.

Through the plan, which mirrored regulations similar to the European airline industry, travelers would have been entitled to payouts ranging from $200 to $300 for delays of three or more hours, $375 to $525 for delays of one or more and  $750 to $775 for delays of nine or more hours.

The proposal was thought to be a positive turning point for travelers by Biden and Pete Buttigieg, who served as the administration’s transportation secretary.
